5 Things I Wish I knew When I First Started Out As A Coach
When I retired from the Marine Corps in 2015, I immediately started college pursuing my degree in Exercise Science and Nutrition.
Fitness has always been a part of my life, but back then…health, not so much.
Not because I wasn’t trying, but because I didn’t know any better.
I associated being healthy with working out and maintaining a certain weight - even if that meant popping fat burners 24/7.
But I digress…
When I first started out as a coach, I knew I wanted to help people (and make money).
And I thought having an education and certifications was all I needed to start getting clients.
So I was associating being a good coach and getting clients with having multiple certifications…
Which again, was because I didn’t know any better.
There are layers to all of this, and I wish I would have taken more time to figure out these 5 things when I first started.
So I pose these 5 questions to you in case you are where I was:
What is your purpose? Are you doing what you really want to be doing?
What are your values? What do you stand for/against?
What’s your vision? Why are you doing this thing in the first place?
Who are you? How are you showing up? Is it how you want to be showing up?
What makes you different? What sets you apart from your competitors?
Being knowledgeable and getting clients are not synonymous with one another.
For example, I save and read things on social media because I want to learn.
And I buy or sign up with coaches through social media because I connect and relate with them.
Figure out your layers starting with answering those questions, and then start sharing them.
Let people connect and relate with you.
I get it, we all want the dream house - but in this scenario it’s up to you to lay the foundation. Not anyone else.
‘Til next time. 🫡
